IAG Cargo Takes Off with Automated Scanning at London Heathrow with Cind’s CargoSpect
April 29, 2025
- Cind AB has partnered with IAG Cargo to install an AI-powered camera solution that will calculate dimensions and provide data on freight movements in real-time
- The solution will lead to improved efficiency and a high-quality service for IAG Cargo customers
[LONDON, 2025-04-29] – Cind AB, a leader in computer vision software, has partnered with IAG Cargo, the cargo division of International Airlines Group (IAG), to debut its cutting-edge camera-based AI system, CargoSpect at IAG Cargo’s London Heathrow hub. This marks the first installation of the system in the United Kingdom.
CargoSpect is a fully automated scanning solution that captures crucial cargo data, including dimensions and weight, in real-time. The system, equipped with 10 cameras, can capture 500 measurements per hour, transforming the way cargo is handled, maximising space of each cargo shipment, automating data collection and boosting sustainability through improved load efficiency. It’s in-motion technology, capable of dynamic measurements at speeds up to 7km/h, eliminates the need to stop or unload pallets – cargo simply moves through the system seamlessly.
Cind aims to transform and improve the logistics sector with digital solutions that capture crucial freight data. By adding AI, we unlock insights beyond human capabilities. For example, our system can read text such as “do not stack” from cargo labels. We have also developed a non-stackable pallet check, based on trained models for the 3D models that we create, further optimizing cargo handling with collecting as much data as possible.
“The integration of AI technologies will equip our teams with more accurate real-time data empowering us to make smarter logistics decisions. This leads to greater efficiency and a higher quality service for our customers,” said Adam Carson, Chief Operations Officer at IAG Cargo.
“A company with the dignity and history that IAG Cargo has is a major recognition for us and we are beyond happy to install our CargoSpect solution at their Heathrow Terminal. This partnership is one important step to revolutionize the cargo industry”, said Marcus Schelin, CEO of Cind AB.
“Dimensioning is a critical component in cargo logistics as it ensures that every cargo space is utilized efficiently. With the CargoSpect solution, IAG Cargo can measure cargo volumes and at the same time collect all different types of necessary data that are used to improve overall logistics performance and increased security.” Added Schelin.
This investment underscores IAG Cargo’s commitment to staying ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving logistics landscape. By embracing innovative solutions like CargoSpect, IAG Cargo aims to build a more efficient, sustainable, and customer-centric future for air cargo.
