Even more opportunities to escape to the Mediterranean sun from Teesside are now available with extra flights added in response to strong demand for popular overseas routes.

Additional services are being introduced on the airport’s Faro and Alicante routes, extending travel opportunities through autumn, Christmas and into next spring.

Ryanair has confirmed additional flights to Faro on Wednesday, 28 October, and Saturday, 31 October.

More trips to Alicante are also available with the airline on 28 October, Christmas Eve, New Year’s Eve and 24 March, 2027.

The additional seats mean passengers can make the most of late autumn sunshine during the school holidays, festive breaks over Christmas and New Year, and early spring getaways ahead of Easter.

It comes after another busy summer at Teesside, with last year marking the airport’s busiest winter period for 17 years.

This season promises year-round sun available through Ryanair flights to Malaga and Alicante.

KLM’s three daily links to Amsterdam will also keep Teesside connected to the world through one of Europe’s leading hub airports as the nights draw in.

Travellers looking for something more seasonal can also book day trips to Lapland, with festive charters to snowy Scandinavia continuing in winter 2026/27.

Additional Lapland capacity has also been added following strong demand from families looking to enjoy a festive flight from their local airport to meet Santa.

Airport Managing Director Phil Forster said: “It’s fantastic to see Ryanair responding to the strong demand we’re seeing from our passengers.

“Adding extra services to Alicante and Faro gives people even more flexibility when planning holidays through autumn, Christmas and into next year.

“With year-round schedules to Malaga and Alicante, KLM offering daily Amsterdam links and TUI package holidays continuing to perform strongly, we’re giving people choice, convenience and a high-quality experience from their local airport.

“There is still plenty of work ahead, but it’s encouraging to see airlines adding services as more people choose to fly from Teesside.”

Ryanair trips to Alicante and Malaga have been among the airport’s top performers in 2026, while twice-weekly flights to Majorca with TUI have continued to prove popular with passengers.

So far this year, Alicante passenger numbers are up 15% on 2025, while Malaga’s performance is up by more than 25%.

The airport’s commitment to customer service has also continued to be recognised nationally. For the third year in a row, Teesside received a “Very Good” rating from the Civil Aviation Authority for its accessibility.

“Whether it’s families looking for some late autumn sunshine, a Christmas break in Spain or an early spring getaway next year, it’s brilliant to see more options being made available from our airport.

“We saved Teesside Airport from the brink of closure, and every extra flight, every new passenger and every new opportunity helps strengthen its future, support jobs and bring more investment into Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool.”
