Shanghai Pudong Int’l Airport Cargo Terminal Co., Ltd. (PACTL) has recently successfully completed the upgrade and relocation of its Cross-border E-commerce Handing Center at PACTL WEST Terminal, with the enhanced facility now officially in operation. As the first major project delivered under PACTL WEST’s broader upgrade program, the initiative represents an important step in strengthening operational capabilities, improving service efficiency and supporting the continued development of air cargo services.

With the rapid development of cross-border e-commerce, air cargo handling facilities are facing increasing requirements for greater capacity, streamlined processes, operational visibility and closer coordination among supply chain stakeholders. To better respond to these evolving market demands, PACTL WEST has upgraded its Cross-Border E-Commerce Handling Center by optimizing operational layouts, improved handling processes and the introduction of digital solutions to support more efficient cargo flows.

The upgraded center has been relocated from the inbound area to the outbound area of PACTL WEST, with the facility expanded to approximately 4,170 square meters, representing a 40% increase compared with the previous site. The redesigned layout integrates dedicated operational areas for cargo unloading, outbound storage, security check, and customs inspection, enabling smoother outbound handling processes. Equipped with enhanced handling and inspection systems, the center improves operational flexibility and supports secure and reliable e-commerce shipment handling. Following the upgrade, the center’s daily handling capacity has doubled compared with the previous facility.

Digitalization is a key element of the enhancement. By integrating data interfaces across different operational systems, the center has improved information connectivity and data sharing throughout the handling process. A visualized operational dashboard has been introduced to provide a comprehensive view of key operational data, enabling more efficient management and better utilization of resources. Through multi-dimensional real-time data display, the system supports more transparent operations and facilitates more accurate decision-making.

The enhanced digital system further strengthens outbound process control through automated verification. During the release process, the system automatically verifies sorting status and controls shipment release, ensuring that parcels which have not completed required handling procedures cannot proceed to outbound delivery. This improves operational accuracy, security and traceability throughout the e-commerce handling process.
