Mr. Malkin began his career in air cargo in 1942, reporting the launch of the first transcontinental all-cargo service by American Airlines. The following year he became editor of the world’s first air cargo periodical, Air Transportation. He remained editor, and later associate publisher, of that publication until ‘retirement’ at 65. He then became air cargo columnist for The Journal of Commerce, then the editor of CNS Focus and, concurrently, air cargo editor of Distribution.
His articles have appeared in Business Week, Forbes, Newsweek International and The New York Times Magazine. His books include Air Freight Transportation, a text book on air cargo, and Boxcars in the Sky.
Richard Malkin is considered the world’s first air cargo journalist.
