Frankfurt Airport and Bangalore International Airport Agree on Strategic Cargo Partnership

February 25, 2026

Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and Bangalore International Airport (BLR) have agreed on a comprehensive strategic partnership in the air cargo sector. With the Memorandum of Understanding signed today, the two airports are intensifying their cooperation to set new standards for the movement of goods between Europe and India. Together, the two partners want to develop innovative digital solutions, further optimize regulatory processes and sustainably strengthen trade flows between Europe and the emerging Indian market.

“The partnership with Bangalore International Airport creates a strong bridge between two globally important freight and business locations, which opens up new opportunities for companies and provides important impetus for the future of international goods traffic,” says Alexander Laukenmann, Head of the Aviation Business Unit at Fraport AG. “Under the motto ‘Creating the Future of Cargo. Together.’ we focus on innovation based on partnership and create optimal conditions for our customers and the entire cargo community. Our cooperation is a central component of our CargoHub Frankfurt master plan and underlines our claim to actively develop international air freight traffic.”

“With this partnership, we are heralding a strategic realignment to network the freight corridors between India and Europe more efficiently through targeted data use,” adds Girish Nair, COO of airport operator BIAL (Bangalore International Airport Limited). “We are continuously investing in the expansion of our freight infrastructure, modern technologies and additional capacity. Such collaborations help us to translate these investments into scalable trade networks and routes, which will benefit the logistics of high-value and time-sensitive cargo in particular. Our focus is on a resilient and future-proof cargo ecosystem that adapts flexibly to changing market and regulatory requirements. In this way, we create long-term added value for airlines, freight forwarders and trading partners.”

The new partnership is all about innovation, dialogue and mutual understanding. Frankfurt and Bangalore are pooling their know-how to make supply chains even more efficient, transparent and sustainable – especially at a time when global markets and economic conditions are changing rapidly.

The partnership is a result of the successful Cargo Roadshow, which brought together industry experts and decision-makers in India in April last year. During the roadshow, Fraport not only presented its own locational advantages, but was also able to address the requirements and potential of the Indian market in a targeted manner. The resulting cooperation marks another milestone in Fraport’s global growth strategy.

With 1.45 billion people, India is considered the largest and one of the most dynamic growth markets in the world, and Frankfurt Airport is the central gateway for European and global trade. The recently concluded free trade agreement between the European Union and India opens up new perspectives for international trade and air freight. Frankfurt Airport and Bangalore International Airport are reacting to these developments at an early stage and are actively shaping the change.
