Chris was born in London and began his career at freight forwarder, Thomas Meadows, moving to Southend Airport-based Tradair in 1959.
It ceased trading in 1962 and Chris joined Tradair founder Eric Hanks in a charter-broking company, H Clarkson Air & Shipping Services. This went onto become Clarkair and a worldwide air charter broker.
After another broking operation, Airmark, he worked with an Alaskan Hercules operator to manage their fleet whilst broking. He set up a broking company, Chapman Freeborn Airmarketing with Mike Freeborn, initially to find work for the Alaskan Hercules fleet. The company became a leading global charter specialist firm.
He now divides his time between the UK and Bergerac, France where he also owns a restaurant.
